Book Week

During Week 6 we celebrated Book Week. 

Over the course of the week we did activities relating to this year's theme "Curious Creatures, Wild Minds". We also had a dress-up day & parade.

It was a lot of fun and we all enjoyed ourselves 😁

Term 3

We can't believe we are almost half way through Term 3!!! We have had a very busy start to the term and it is going to continue being busy as it progresses.

Firstly, we elected our new Student Councillors. Every student who wanted to be a councillor had to present a speech to the class and then we did a secret vote. The winners were...... Bhuvan & Chirath 😊 🎉

We also celebrated NAIDOC Week during Week 2. We met up with our Buddy class (Kindy 1) and helped our little friends create some rainbow serpents after we all read the story together. We also got to make our own rainbow serpent.

Then during Week 4 we were lucky enough to have Mr Sanderson come into our classroom and show us some REALLY cool science experiments, and we were able to impress him with our understanding of some different scientific vocabulary we have learnt. He also taught us about some biological science which is the concept we are learning about this term.

We also had an assembly in Week 4. We would like to say a huge CONGRATULATIONS to our classroom award winners - Jacob, Chloe, Joanna & Tahsan, and a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Joshua on receiving the Italian certificate. There were also Literacy Pro certificates for the most improved. Monet, Joanna & Lily are our most improved students for Room 13.

Term 2

Term 2 Investigation on parachutes!

Hi everyone, for science we have been learning about forces. We made parachutes in Week 9 Term 2 for our STEM Day! We wrote a plan and designed our parachutes in our Integrated Subjects book. Our aim, that was set, was to make a successful parachute. When we finished making our parachutes we tested if they would fly, only 20% of our parachutes worked well. When we went outside Miss Dowling filmed our parachutes falling in slow motion. We hoped everyone in Room 13 enjoyed making these amazing parachutes! STEM

Good afternoon everyone,

During Week 9 we will be taking part in a STEM day. For our STEM day we need some recycled materials from home to help us make our PARACHUTES!!

If you are able to, would you please kindly donate the following materials to our class:

• fabric
• string
• cardboard
• plastic
• thread
• pegs
• army / lego / plastic animal figurines
• cloth
• tape
• foil
• paper clips
• serviette 
• cupcake cases
• coffee filters 
  

We do not need ALL the materials, these are just suggestions for things that could be used to construct a parachute in class.

HASS

We have been learning about Early Explorers in History this term. Throughout our research and learning we discovered that the Chinese explorer 'Zheng He' had many voyages, some that possibly included sailing by Australia. He travelled around during the early 15th century. As part of our History unit and STEM we constructed some 15th Century Junk Boats, similar to those that Zheng He would have commanded. 

Newsletter Room 13

We have had a great start to Term 2 and have hit the ground running with getting back into the swing of things in our classroom.

During these trying times the students of Room 13 have shown just how resilient they are and have settled straight back into school life with ease. It has been wonderful to have all their smiling faces back in the classroom.

Throughout the this term we will be continuing  to wash our hands multiple times per day, wiping down desks and door handles and social distancing as much as possible to keep up with expected hygiene practices. We have a large bottle of hand sanitizer available in the classroom for everyone to use.

At the end  of Term 1 we had 3 Merit Award winners whom received their awards  in class during Week 2 Term 2. Even though we are unable to hold assemblies, we are still able to present certificates in class. The lucky recipients of those awards were Lily, Joshua and Benjamin. I would like to say huge congratulations to them again on such wonderful achievements. 

Don’t forget to keep checking our class blog weekly for homework.  It will be on the blog every Monday and it is due the following Monday. You may print the homework and glue it into a homework book, place it in your homework folder or read it off the blog and write the answers into your homework book. The homework will consist of reading for a minimum of 10 minutes every night, completing Literacy Pro quizzes, 15 to 20 mental math questions per week and 4 different spelling activities to be completed over the week/weekend.
